Tim Scoggins Biography

I was born in Norman, Oklahoma on April 26, 1956 and grew up in Texas. I earned a bachelor of science degree in physics from Baylor. My first job was as an exploration geophysicist for Shell Oil in Houston, Texas. After six years at Shell, I studied computer science for two years before going to work for Applied Research Laboratories in Austin, Texas, where I worked for 25 years doing research in underwater acoustics for the Navy. For 14 years I was a member of the Austin Toastmasters honing my public speaking skills. I retired in 2010 and moved to Shaftsbury.

I am married to Jennifer Scoggins, a physical therapist at the Veterans Home in Bennington. Our daughter River is a student at Mount Anthony Union High School.

I enjoy outdoor recreation of all types including:

  • Hiking and backpacking. I regularly work with the Green Mountain Club maintaining the Long Trail.
  • Bicycling
  • Golf

I have been an outdoor enthusiast my entire life. Coming to the natural paradise that is Vermont has been the happiest time of my life.
